Lanvin : Native Chic

The French luxe house fronted by Albers Elbaz gives a preview of its autumn winter 2010 season, featuring these exquisite moccasin-trainer-ankle boots. Offered in supersoft velvet calfskin in either taupe or black, the brand's signature grosgrain ribbon lacing is used to bold effect on the toe whipstitching and closure. The composite sole is high-polished in the midfoot area, matte at the toe and heel, to remind us that these are not mere sportshoes, after all.

DIY Luxe

If you can't buy it, make it. Or, even if you can buy it, do it anyway. Paper chanel bag with metal chain was spotted elsewhere on the internet. I couldn't resist posting it, as I think it shows a mix of courage, originality, and cheekiness that is sometimes forgotten in fashion today.

A sunny day

Today was the first warm day in a long time. I almost said first 'sunny' day, but admittedly, it has been rather sunny this past week. More than not. Perfect for a visit to the London Zoo. The ticket price is extortionary, but if you're feeling up to the commitment, the membership pays itself off after 2 visits, pretty much. The rainforest garden is especially enticing, because of the proximity that it allows to the creatures in the mist. After taking in the animals for a few hours, I wondered into town down the Baker Street, eventually popping into Dover Street Market to see what's new in store. For anyone feeling a bit strapped for cash to splash out for normal CDG prices, the Black collection offers popular cuts from the mainline in less expensive fabrics (eg, cotton twill vs.  pre-wrinkled poly blend or worsted wool).  The result still screams Comme, but with less of a shock to the pocketbook. I admit being late to the game to tout this line, but I guess that's because I was always going straight up to the 3rd floor first.

The genius of Alexander Wang continues...

3S10510 ELIZA CUTOUT WEDGE MULE - BLACK - WOMEN - FOOTWEAR - WEDGES

I am not a fan of wedge heels, as I feel like they look clunky. However, this wedge mule and others on the Opening Ceremony website really work for me. I'm impressed at how he has translated his apparel cuts into the shaping of the shoe.

It's definitely not anything new to be jumping on the Alexander Wang bandwagon these days, but I simply had to share these inspired boots from the NYC designer. Can't believe I ever naysayed zips on kicks!

some personal projects

Here are some work I've done for friends, when I was lacking gift wrapping paper, as well as for myself, just to keep my right brain busy. The very last image is a carnet of 30 x 30 mm images of friends from my days in the NBG.

A new beginning

This is my 3rd attempt at a blog. I started almost two years ago on a different server, a French one, but unfortunately embarrassingly enough, I can't remember the site, meaning that my posts about my early days of motherhood are lost somewhere out there in cyber space.

My 2nd attempt began quite well, on a different server, and I didn't feel terribly happy about the default templates on offer for free blogs.

So here I am on blogger.com, hoping this will stick.
